An intimate cliff-top elopement at Grand Villa Heights, Ravenscar, North Yorkshire.
An uncharacteristically blustery Wednesday in July set the scene for Sandie & Joe’s intimate elopement on the clifftops of Grand Villa Heights in Ravenscar, North Yorkshire. It feels like yesterday that I joined this beautiful family for an incredibly special day — one filled with love, connection, and a small bit of magic.
I remember clearly when Sandie first reached out to me. She had come across my work on social media and felt that my style resonated with both her and her soon-to-be husband, Joe. When we met for a video chat, the conversation flowed effortlessly — it felt less like a consultation and more like catching up with old friends. They shared their plans for a small, intentional ceremony at Grand Villa Heights with just their immediate family present, before later heading to Poland for a much larger celebration.
Their vision was simple and meaningful: a cliff-top ceremony, their parents and siblings looking on, and space to truly take it all in. I knew instantly that this was a day I wanted to be part of. This ceremony was always meant to feel worlds away from their Polish celebration — quieter, slower, and deeply personal. An intimate wedding breakfast followed, complete with a carefully hand-selected soundtrack, and their gorgeous niece Daisy was given an extra-special role — offering her very official Seal of Approval. This day was about their legal union, held gently and intentionally.
There was a real sense of calm throughout the morning, even as the venue quietly buzzed with activity in the background. Suppliers moved softly around the space, setting the scene for the ceremony, while we all kept one cautious eye on the sky. The hope was simple: that the weather would hold long enough for the cliff-top ceremony to go ahead. If you know me, you’ll know I’m big on manifestation — and on this day, it truly felt like someone was listening. At the very last moment, confirmation came through: Sandie and Joe’s dream ceremony on the cliffs would be happening.
As everyone gathered on the lawns, the sun made a timely appearance just as Sandie stepped outside with both of her parents. Seagulls circled above us, the wind tried its very best to blow us all away, and speeches were shared by Sandie and Joe’s parents in both English and Polish — words filled with love, pride, and deep emotion. They sealed their union legally before Daisy took centre stage, confirming that she too wholeheartedly approved of their marriage. Years from now, I’ll always remember everyone desperately holding onto flowers, tablecloths, veils and confetti, trying to stop them from being carried straight out to sea.
Every wedding is unique and worthy of celebration, but I find myself continually drawn to small, intimate elopements like this one. For me, what truly matters in weddings — and in marriage — is connection, authenticity, love, and the memories that are made. In quieter celebrations, these things seem to exist in abundance. The ability to celebrate love gently, without expectation or performance, is something truly special. There was so much laughter and joy throughout Sandie and Joe’s day that it felt as though there were hundreds of guests present, rather than the beautifully hand-selected seven who witnessed them say their vows.
However you choose to celebrate your love, as long as it is a true reflection of you, that’s all that matters.
